Dear TDN Cyclists & Friends,
In order to provide a safe event in 2021, Tour de Nebraska has formed a COVID Mitigation Plan committee to prioritize and ensure "best practices" as it relates to safety protocols regarding COVID-19.
Though we will continue to defer to current state and local guidelines regarding COVID-19 mitigation, we expect the further relaxing of rules and guidelines regarding various safety measures. As of this date, Tour de Nebraska, Inc. (TDN) expects to implement the following set of protocols for the safe and responsible execution of our 2021 event. We will update this plan as things progress and change.
Participants includes any and all individuals involved in the event including but not exclusively registered riders, sponsors, volunteers, staff and vendors. All participants will be required to:
● Be healthy to participate. Be prepared to answer a CDC health screening questionnaire no more than 48 hours prior to the event
● Sign a TDN Commitment confirming that participants understand the COVID protocols listed here
● Maintain 6’ social distance
● Wear a mask when 6’ social distancing is not possible (indoors and outdoors)
● Wear masks if riding in a SAG vehicle with more than 1 occupant
● Wash or sanitize hands frequently
● Wipe down their respective eating areas (disinfectant stations will be provided)
● Set up tents front to back to ensure social distancing
● Adhere to 6’ social distancing while indoor and outdoor camping
● Immediately isolate and contact TDN officials if experiencing COVID symptoms (see below)
TDN organizers will ask food vendors and servers to:
● Provide single-serve (cans and bottles) when possible and/or have gloved volunteers at hydration stations
● Provide single-serving, wrapped food items when possible
● Only offer fruit that can be peeled such as oranges & bananas
● Wear plastic gloves when serving food
● Require interns/volunteers/staff/vendors to help sanitize high contact areas (port-a-potties, cafeteria tables, meal locations, etc.)
● Provide hand sanitizer stations
TDN organizers will:
● Provide a "TDN Care Package" that will include a gator mask, hand sanitizer and wipes to all registered riders (no t-shirts this year)
● Arrange for outdoor eating areas as much as possible
● Promote staggered meal times to riders (Early: 5p and Later: 6p)
● Help coordinate with local motel to isolate anyone experiencing COVID symptoms until they have a family/friend that can provide transportation home
● Notify staff and local officials in the case of a COVID illness
● Notify event constituents of closures and restrictions put into place due to a case of COVID illness
● Advise those who have had close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID that they will need to leave the event and get tested
● Follow COVID guidelines for distancing, masks and hand washing to the greatest extent possible in the event of an emergency or extreme weather that requires sheltering of participants, volunteers and staff.
